Have you bought one of the several Canon cameras that use the LP-E6N or LP-E6NH battery? Or bought one of these batteries to use with an older Canon camera, and are wondering how they compare? Then you’ve come to the right place.
Below, we’ll take a look at how the LP-E6N vs. LP-E6NH compare on a variety of features and answer some important questions you may have.

| Features | LP-E6N | LP-E6NH |
|---|---|---|
| Power | 1865mAh | 2130 mAh |

Is LP-E6N the Same as LP-E6NH?
The LP-E6NH is the upgraded version of LP-E6NH. The LP-E6NH battery is the most powerful in the LP-E6 battery line and the latest generation battery produced by Canon. It has a power rating of 2,130mAh, which is 14% more than LP-E6N.
The LP-E6NH battery first came out in the past few years with the Canon EOS R5 and R6 cameras. These cameras have higher resolution and processing power than their predecessors, which necessitated a stronger battery. The newest camera in the Canon EOS R series, the R7, also uses the LP-E6NH.
The LP-E6N is 3.5% more powerful than its predecessor, the LP-E6, and came out in late 2014 with Canon’s EOS 7D Mark II.
How Long Do the LP-E6NH & LP-E6N Batteries Last?
With LP-E6NH, you can get well over 1,000 still images in burst mode when using the R5, and up to 4,000 or more still images when using the R6 in burst mode.
Where you consistently see a difference between the LP-E6N and LP – E6NH is in filming. If you’re consecutively filming videos, the LP-E6NH in the R6 can film in 4k/25 for 1 hour and 47 minutes, and can film in FHD/25 for approximately 2 hours and 48 minutes. When the LP-E6N was used in the R6, it was able to film for 26-29% less than the LP-E6NH.
Are the LP-E6N & LP-E6NH Interchangeable?

The LP-E6NH and LP-E6N batteries are interchangeable to a certain extent.
The LP-E6N can be used in Canon cameras that use the LP-E6NH, such as the EOS R5 and R6. However, since it’s less powerful, some of the settings and features that require more processing power won’t function at all or as well, and battery life will be shorter.
The LP-E6NH can’t be used in any Canon camera that came out before the 60D DSLR camera. However, this means you can safely use the LP-E6NH in the Canon cameras that come with the LP-E6N. You’ll also get a longer battery life when you do.
What Chargers Are Compatible With the LP-E6N & LP-E6NH?
The Canon LC-E6 charger and LC-E6E charger are compatible with the LP-E6NH and the LP-E6N. If you want to try a third – party charger and pay less, this battery charger kit from Neewer got good reviews from regular Canon EOS R5 and R6 users.
However, note that you need to check and monitor chargers from third-party manufacturers, as these have a higher chance of malfunctioning.
Do All Canon Cameras Use the Same Battery Charger?
Not all Canon cameras use the same battery charger. In general, each line of Canon camera batteries use different chargers. In some cases each of the batteries in a single line/series can use a different charger as well.
For example, the Canon LC-E6 battery charger is designed for the LP-E6 line of batteries. Meanwhile, the LP-E10 battery uses the LC-E10 charger and the LP-E12 battery uses the LC-E12 charger.
And the BP-511 battery line, which was used in the Canon DSLR cameras before the 60D came out, would use a different charger, and so on and so forth.
Can I Charge My Canon Camera Battery without a Charger?
Most of the older Canon camera batteries can’t be charged without a charger. However, the newer Canon camera batteries, especially the LP-E6N and LP-E6NH, can be charged via USB.
For your USB power source, you can use a USB power adapter like this one from Canon. This is one of the more straightforward options, since you won’t need to buy a separate USB-C cable that’s compatible with your camera.
You can also use a power delivery USB adapter, power bank, or a USB-C port on your laptop. Keep in mind, however, that your USB power options will be limited if you’re using an older Canon camera. For example, if you’re using the Canon 60D, you’ll need to use the USB charging cable that comes with it.
Also, these other 3 USB power options will require buying a USB-C cable that’s compatible with your camera. If you don’t want to buy a more expensive USB-C cable from Canon and you’re using the EOS R5, R6, or R7, this one from Anker comes highly recommended by Canon users.
What Cameras Is the LP-E6NH Compatible With?
The LP-E6NH works with all Canon cameras that use any battery in the LP-E6 series. This includes the following:
- EOS R/R5/R6
- EOS 7D/7D Mark II
- EOS 5DS/5DS R
- EOS 5D Mark II/III/IV
